Lake Argyle is Australia’s largest artificial lake by volume. It was completed in 1972 as part of the Ord Irrigation Scheme and is located in the East Kimberley, Western Australia. The primary inflow is the Ord River, while the Bow River and many smaller creeks also flow into the dam. Lake Argyle normally has a surface area of about 1,000 square kilometres. The lake is home to around 26 species of native fish and a population of freshwater crocodiles estimated at some 25,000. The lake, with its surrounding grasslands support about 150,000 water birds. The calm waters are a photograhers delight, so we believe Lake Argyle has something to offer all visitors.
