DETAILED ITINERARY

Drive/Fly - 3 Day/2 Night West Kimberley Icons Tour

3 Day/2 Night – West Kimberley Drive/Fly Tour:

DAY 1 – Broome to Mt Hart, via Tunnel Creek & Windjana Gorge

Pick up’s in Broome will start at 6:30am.

We commence our journey, heading west on the Great Northern Highway crossing the mighty Fitzroy River along the way to our first adventure at Tunnel Creek.  Tunnel Creek, Western Australia’s oldest cave system was the hiding spot for the aboriginal outlaw “Jandamarra”, and we will take a unique torch light walking tour (wading in some places) along the underground bed as it flows beneath the range.

The Lennard River also carves its way through the range at Windjana Gorge (our 2nd stop for today) and is part of this same ancient Devonian great barrier reef system.  The colourful and rugged Windjana Gorge with its vertical limestone cliffs, fossil fish and deep green pools inhabited by dozens of freshwater crocodiles is sure to impress with its distinctive primeval feel and you are sure to capture some amazing photographs.

We return to the Gibb River Road, heading deep into the heart of the Kimberley, passing through a gap in the jagged and stunning 350 million year old Devonian limestone cliffs of the Napier Range.  Shortly after we enter the ancient rugged Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges

on our way to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge. The Lodge is nestled in a tropical oasis on the banks of the Barker River and the area abounds with abundant bird and wildlife populations. Mt Hart’s proximity to many of the Kimberley’s major attractions make it an ideal base to explore the region. This unique property offers a rich pastoral history, that offers a rustic ambiance and exceptional hospitality.

DAY 2 – Bell Gorge

After a glorious breakfast at Mt Hart we head to Bell Gorge, one of the most iconic gorges and waterfalls of the Gibb River Road.  At its entrance, Bell Gorge has a stunning permanent waterfall. Torrents of water flowing north west over the millennia from the King Leopold Range have cut down through the ancient sandstone rocks to form a spectacular

gorge.  Bell Gorge is a great spot for swimming, photography and for enjoying the best of what nature has to offer. After a relatively moderate one kilometre downhill walk, you will be rewarded with the irresistible opportunity to take your first swim in a magical Kimberley waterhole at the top of the falls.

The more adventurous may choose to venture further and climb down to the bottom of the waterfall and enjoy a thunderous refreshing shower in the crystal clear waters of the plunge pool. You may even spot a “Mertens Water Monitor” sunning itself on the rock ledges, or rock wallabies resting in the shade of the overhanging ledges.

After enjoying a picnic lunch it will be time to head back to Mt Hart for our 2nd night’s stay.

DAY 3 – Flight – Buccaneer Archipelago / Horizontal Falls / Cygnet Bay

After breakfast we explore Baker Pool and enjoy a swim in the cool water.  You will board your flight between 12:45pm – 13:00pm, operated by Broome Aviation, for your return journey.  Enjoy the sights of the Isdell River, the spectacular natural world-renowned Horizontal Waterfalls (fly over) and Cockatoo Island on your way to Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm. Here you will stop for a Cygnet Bay Pearl Farm tour, after which you will fly over Cape Leveque, the Dampier Peninsula and James Price Point back to Broome for your final farewells.

DAY 3 – Mt Hart to Broome, via Windjana Gorge & Tunnel Creek

We continue our journey along the iconic Gibb River Road on a scenic drive through ancient outback landscapes of the Kimberley. We view a startling rock formation resembling a profile view of Queen Victoria’s head as we pass through a gap in the jagged and stunning 350 million year old Devonian limestone cliffs of the Napier Range.

The Lennard River carves its way through the range at Windjana Gorge and is part of this same ancient Devonian great barrier reef system, that was far larger than the famous Great Barrier Reef, but now exposed on the surface. It was laid down in an ancient sea that covered a large part of the Kimberley in Devonian times, some 350 million years ago.

The colourful and rugged Windjana Gorge with its vertical limestone cliffs, fossil fish and deep green pools inhabited by dozens of freshwater crocodiles is sure to impress with its distinctive primeval feel and you are sure to capture some amazing photographs.

Our second stop is a visit Tunnel Creek and Windjana Gorge.  Tunnel Creek, Western Australia’s oldest cave system was the hiding spot for the aboriginal outlaw “Jandamarra”, and we will take a unique torch light walking tour (wading in some places) along the underground river bed as it flows beneath the range.

Operations due to COVID-19

Due to different factors, uncertain times, and government restrictions and circumstances out of our control:

If a tour is cancelled or is unable to proceed due to any COVID-19 (or any other pandemic) restrictions (imposed by Government or any other authorising body) or such restrictions are either not removed as expected, extended, or re-imposed, we will use our best endeavours to consider the options, and may offer to guests:

– a transfer to an alternative departure date, subject to availability;

– a credit for the original value paid by you for the tour which credit will be transferable to another person and valid for 18 months.

Please note:

* Additional costs may apply for future departures due to fare schedule/costs increases;

* Credit is not redeemable for cash

If you contract COVID-19 (or any other pandemic virus or disease) within 31 days of the date of departure of the tour, you must notify Kimberley Outback Tours in writing. In such circumstances, you will not be able to and will not be granted permission to undertake the tour. In such circumstances you (and any other person cancelling as part of the booking) will be offered a transfer to an alternative departure date, subject to availability, at the absolute discretion of Kimberley Outback Tours.

If you refuse a transfer to an alternative departure date, it will be deemed that you have cancelled your tour and the Cancellation Policy of Kimberley Outback Tours will apply.

To ensure that our guests and our tour guides remain safe during the pandemic, guests must adhere to all social distancing requirements and hygiene standards as required by Kimberley Outback Tours and Government policies. Guests may be required to undertake a temperature test via a non-contact thermometer and/or a COVID-19 test prior to commencing the tour or during the tour. If a positive result occurs or if a guest refuse to take this test, Kimberley Outback Tours has the right, at its sole discretion, to refuse to take the guest on the tour, or to bar the guest(s) from continuing the tour, which ever the case may be.

All out of pocket expenses (transfers, transport or alternate accommodation) as a consequence of leaving the tour will be at the guest’s own expense. Guest(s) shall not be entitled to any refund on monies paid by guest(s) to Kimberley Outback Tours under these circumstances.
