Detailed Itinerary

Kimberley & Top End Tour 2026 - 16 Nights | Broome - Darwin

  • We meet together for a welcome drink and dinner at our accommodation restaurant. You will meet your crew and fellow passengers and prepare for a memorable adventure ahead.

    En-suited Resort Accommodation - The Continental or similiar, Broome (D)

  • This morning we head north to the Dampier Peninsula, stopping to learn the indigenous culture and history of the communities. We stop at Lombadina for a guided cultural tour, giving us a unique opportunity to experience the local and traditional ways of life of the community and their salt water heritage.

    We will do a community tour of Lombadina, where we learn about the unique history of the Bardi people and this community, including the Catholic bush church.

    Cygnet Bay is our overnight stop, where we will also enjoy a guided pearl farm tour and dinner overlooking the bay.

  • We head south down the Dampier Peninsula and make our way to Derby. We get our first views of boab laden savannahs so you know you are somewhere different!

    The seaplane flight departs from Derby Airport to Talbot Bay. This afternoons activities include a boat ride through the Horizontal Falls and up the surrounding creeks, having swim, learning about the area, shark feeding or just sit back and relax watching the sunset.

  • An early start to view the sunrise across Talbot Bay. You return to Derby with a scenic flight over the Buccaneer Archipelago.

    We visit Derby, including the Prison Boab Tree and the historical jetty before making our way onto the Gibb River Road.

    Continuing to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge located in the Wunaamin Miliwundi Conservation Park, we settle in for our two night stay.

    Safari Tent - Mt Hart Wilderness Lodge (B,L,D)

  • Today is a day of exploring Dalmanyi (Bell Gorge) in the Wunaamin Miliwundi Conservation Park. We take the opportunity to walk and swim in this magical Kimberley gorge and admire the beauty.

    We return back to Mount Hart Wilderness Lodge for a relaxing evening.

  • Today we depart the Conservation Park and back track a little west, before heading south to take a walk through Bandilngan (Windjana Gorge) with the Lennard River flowing, spotting flora and fauna along the way. Keep an eye out for freshwater crocodiles.

    Further along, we stop for our next adventure walking through a large tunnel that has been carved through the limestone of the Napier Range, known as Dimalurru (Tunnel Creek). We learn about the deep tragic story of Jandamarra, a Bunuba man who fought a 3 year long resistance against European colonisers.

    Tonight we stay on the banks of Martuwarra (Fitzroy River).

  • This morning, we take an informative boat cruise through Danggu (Geike Gorge) and Bunuba country.

    Continuing on with our journey, we stop at Mimbi Caves on the southern end of the Napier Range for an Indigenous Guided Tour where we learn about the culture of the Gooniyandi people.

    We stay in Halls Creek, home of Western Australia’s first, although brief, gold rush. We look at the town settling into our accommodation for the evening.

  • Venturing back onto the dirt tracks, we take the windy road over the Osmond Range into the World Heritage Area (Purnululu National Park).

    Today is spending the majority of our day exploring Purnululu National Park. We walk into Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek to view the magnificent striped bee hive domes.

    Following the Bungles Massif we head to the northern end of the park to walk and explore Echidna Chasm. This narrow path has walls as close as 1m wide and the sandstone gorge towers as much as 200m above.

    We have the optional extra of a helicopter flights over the Bungle Bungle Massif. Please note this flight is not included in the tour.

    We enjoy our night under the stars and with a campfire in the park.

  • We depart the park and make our way out along the dirt windy road back to the highway. Skirting around to the eastern end of the Gibb River Road, we sight the Cockburn Ranges and the Pentecost River.

    Our overnight stop is either El Questro or Home Valley to prepare us for a day of exploring the East Kimberley.

  • A relaxing soak in the thermal waters of Zebedee Springs is a must of any visit to El Questro so after breakfast we make our way here.

    For lunch we visit the main hub of El Questro ‘The Station’ to view the township in its glory.

    We have a three night stay in Kununurra.

  • Enjoy some free time in town, before taking a scenic boat cruise on the Ord River and viewing Lake Argyle. This ecosystem is home to an abundance of bird life with over 300 species in the Kimberley. You will also spot freshwater crocodiles. We will learn about the history and making of Ord River Irrigation system.

    We stop at the Durack Homestead to learn about the history of the family before returning to Kununurra.

  • Today you may choose to spend a slower day in Kununurra before the final leg of the journey or you may choose to join a Mitchell Falls Explorer with Shoal Air. This incredible day trip sees you take a scenic flight to Mitchell Plateau before taking a 4WD to the airstrip where you will chopper into the falls before hiking out and flying home. This is at your own expense with approximate pricing $1600 per person.

    Alternatively, we can spend the day with various activities in and around Kununurra, including Ivanhoe Crossing and the Diversion Dam of the Ord River and some free time in town.  We will take a short drive to Wyndham with the Five Rivers Lookout and panoramic views of the Cambridge Gulf.

  • We farewell Western Australia, adjust our clocks and welcome Northern Territory.

    Passing through cattle country, Timber Creek and Victoria River we arrive into Katherine, where the outback meets the tropics.

    We take an informative cruise on Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) before settling into our town accommodation for the evening.

  • Taking the Stuart Highway north we head to the picturesque Leliyn (Edith Falls) for a walk and swim. We then travel via Pine Creek, known for its historic gold mining.

    Passing on to the Kakadu Highway, we head north passing by the township Jabiru. Kakadu has seven unique habitats which we see some of these on our journey into the park.

    Finishing our day with a relaxing wildlife sunset cruise on Yellow Water Billabong.

    We have a two night stop in the National Park, close to a billabong with an abundance of birdlife.

  • Exploring the World Heritage Listed National Park. We continue to see the different habitats.

    A visit to Cahill’s Crossing, the border of Arnhem Land, is a great place to spot a saltwater croc!

    Other places of interest during the day will include Ubirr, Noulangie Art Site and Warradjan Cultural Centre.

    We return to our accommodation for a meal using local produce.

  • We depart on the Arnhem Highway heading towards Litchfield National Park. We cross two major rivers of the area, South Alligator River & Mary River.

    Arriving into Litchfield National Park, we visit the magnetic termite mounds all standing grand and facing east / west. Next stop is Florence Falls standing at 64 metres. A walk to the base of the falls earns you a well deserved swim! Wangi Falls is a beautiful spot, with a short walk to the swimming hole with the rocks and water falls cascading.

    After exploring this magnificent park, we head north to Darwin. Checking in to our accommodation on the Esplanade, we enjoy a farewell dinner chatting about the memories of this great adventure together.
