  • Yes, if you are joining the Ultimate Kimberley Tour, Kimberley and Top End Tour or our North-West Odyssey, you will be experiencing the Horizontal Falls. Horizontal Falls Sea Plane Adventures has a maximum allowable weight of 120 Kg. In addition to this, no refund will be available to the passenger and any additional costs will be at the passenger’s expense, including meals and accommodation in Derby.

  • When planning our tours we ensure there are regular breaks from driving to stretch your legs, use the bathroom and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Long distances are inevitable due to the area we cover on our tours. We have gone to great lengths to ensure we have low km days after doing a larger stretch. Your comfort is top priority which is why we travel in luxury coaches.

  • Luggage restrictions apply due to the limited amount of storage space on our buses. For full details please see our Luggage page

  • Should you no longer be able to proceed with your reservation please call and advise us as soon as possible. Cancellation fees may apply. Please see our Terms and Conditions for further information.

  • Prior to departure you will receive an information pack which includes packing tips. All dining is casual. There is more information on our Climate and Packing Tips page

  • Yes, Kimberley Outback Tours can assist you with booking additional accommodation at the same hotel you stay at on tour (subject to availability). Please email or call our office to discuss.

  • Proper hiking shoes are preferable as some walks cover rocky ground and rough terrain. If you do not own or do not wish to purchase these, good walking shoes are essential.

For Tunnel Creek we suggest wearing water shoes or runners that you don’t mind getting wet. Thongs are not recommended as the wet rock can be slippery and they can fall off under water.

  • Yes - of course! Should you wish to opt out of any activity we will find a shady rest area for you to relax in until the rest of the group return. In some cases you will be able to stay at the accommodation instead of joining the excursion.

  • There is no need to be in touch wiht us after making a booking. You will receive a confirmation email after booking. If you do not receive this, please call the office.

We will then be in touch with you in the lead up to your departure. If your tour starts with a welcome dinner we will advise the time and location. If you are being picked up at the beginning of the tour, we will be in touch to arrange the location and pick up time.

If you have any concerns, we are always happy to hear from you.

  • You are welcome to bring a small supply of alcohol on your tour. Your tour guide will advise you where to purchase - please be aware that local alcohol restrictions apply.

For those tours going to Horizontal Falls, you must purchase alcohol prior to joining the tour as there will not be an opportunity before boarding the seaplane. Please only bring 1 bottle per person. Ice and mixers are available on the houseboat.

For all other tours, you are welcome to bring a small amount of alcohol to consume in your rooms but please note, alcohol is available to purchase at all locations so you will not be allowed to BYO into common areas.

  • Yes - as all meals are included in your tour and we endeavor to meet your dietary requirements. Please provide these at time of booking. Due to remote locations, requirements that are less common can be difficult to meet at short notice. Common requirements such as vegetarian, lactose free, gluten free and nut free meals can be arranged at all locations.

  • Generally, our tours are not suitable for children under 18 years.

Kimberley Outback Tour guests are generally aged between 55-75 years.

  • Our maximum group size is 20 guests for our Kimberley and NT tours while 24 guests is the maximum on all other tours. We generally average around 16 guests.

  • This varies from tour to tour. As we travel through remote areas mobile coverage can be intermittent or not at all in some areas. Each bus is equipped with a satellite phone so we can always be in contact with a tour out on the road or in case of an emergency. However, this service is not available for guest use.

Most accommodation does have Wi-Fi connectivity but there may be a charge for use.

  • All of our tour itineraries include guided walks over natural, rocky (and sometimes slippery) terrain.

You need to have a reasonable level of fitness and be sure-footed to participate in the full itinerary. There is, of course, the opportunity to opt out of any activity you are unsure of - you crew will ensure you have a comfortable, shady area to relax and wait for the rest of the group to return.

Most walks are less than 45 minutes and we generally walk quite slow due to the terrain.

  • We reserve the right to postpone/cancel any tour due to unforeseen circumstances, for example cultural considerations, severe weather implications, mechanical issues, road conditions or other reasons. If cancellation is at the fault of KOT we will offer a full refund or credit. If cancellation is out of KOT’s control, we will endeavor to recover as much cost a possible for you and refund or credit as such. We strongly encourage travel insurance to cover uncontrollable cancellations.

  • Yes, of course. However, you must advise us in advance in the event we need to make special arrangements for power. You may want to bring a small extension cord to ensure the machine reaches the bed.

  • Tunnel Creek Subterranean Walk is a ‘Class 4 Trail walk’ - meaning that a good level of fitness is required. The start of the trail is a little tricky with a few boulders to climb over but when inside it is relatively flat. The level of the water purely depends on the amount of rain and when in the season you visit. Usually you can wade through the water, however, after the floods in 2023, the following season required a 20 m swim through a section of the walk. Be ready to get wet …but it is well worth it!

  • Every KOT bus carries fresh drinking water and can be used to refill a water bottle. It is the responsibility of each guest to take adequate drinking water on any excursion/bushwalk. We encourage you to fill water bottles at the accommodation we stay to reduce the plastic waste of purchased water.

  • Due to the nature of our tours guests are required to have a reasonable level of mobility to enjoy the itinerary and board the buses unaided. Due to limited storage space we are unable to accommodate any large mobility aids or frames. Walking sticks and smaller aides are welcome.

  • All KOT buses are equipped with a satellite phone and first aid kit, in case any emergency should arise.

  • Most, but not all accommodation has 240 volt power points available for charging guest equipment. The coaches have a couple of USB points and inverters for charging devices if needed. We do recommend that guests bring portable power banks for charging should no mains power be available.

  • Tea, coffee and refreshment stops are scheduled into all our itineraries. Most accommodation offers tea and coffee facilities within your room, or in the restaurant/dining areas.

  • On all tours we endeavor to ensure all rooms have ensuites and deliver on this most of the time. Due to remote locations and limited room availability, occasionally we have to use non-ensuited rooms however, these are luxury bell tents and the shared ablution blocks are close by. Please call us to discuss if this concerns you.

  • Laundry facilities are available at some accommodation stops along the way. This, therefore, varies from tour to tour. The laundry facilities range from coin operated to full service, depending on the property. You need to ensure you have at least 5 days worth of clean clothes.

  • We love to receive feedback from guests! Please contact us on 1300 286 453 or email bookings@kimberleyoutbacktours.com.au. We also appreciate your feedback on TripAdvisor too.

  • All our tours have a ‘minimum 6 guests’ requirement. It is very rare for Kimberley Outback Tours to cancel a tour due to minimum numbers. However, should this happen an alternative tour will be offered or a full refund.
